Product Information

Munstead Wood is a stunning rose variety bred by David Austin, renowned for his English roses. This standard rose showcases very deep, velvety crimson blooms with lighter coloured outer petals. Initially forming large cups, the blooms gradually become shallowly cupped over time. The flowers exude a strong Old Rose fragrance with delightful fruity notes of blackberry, blueberry, and damson.

The bushy, spreading growth of Munstead Wood forms a broad shrub, with young red-bronze leaves maturing to mid-green. This variety not only enhances any garden with its beauty but also carries a rich historical significance.

Munstead Wood is named after the home of horticulturalist and garden designer Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) in Surrey, England. Designed by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, their professional partnership was one of the most influential of the Arts and Crafts movement. Gertrude Jekyll wrote many of her gardening books at Munstead Wood, which was her home for most of her life.

The property, Munstead Wood, has been listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens in England since Jekyll's time. In 2023, the National Trust (UK) purchased Munstead Wood through a private sale, preserving its legacy for future generations.
