Bring home a living fossil Wollemi Pine

The Wollemi Pine is one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees, with only 46 adult trees and 43 juveniles known to remain in the wild. By adopting a Wollemi Pine, you play a part in conserving a plant that dates back 200 million years. As Dr Cathy Offord of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney notes, "Having a Wollemi Pine in the garden allows everyone to help conserve this unique endangered species."

Known as the 'dinosaur tree' and ‘a living fossil’ the Wollemi Pine is an ancient conifer once thought extinct. The name Wollemi, from an Aboriginal word meaning 'look around you, keep your eyes open,' is fitting for a tree that was thought extinct until its rediscovery in 1994 by NSW Park Ranger David Noble in a remote Blue Mountains location. This site has been declared an Asset of Intergenerational Significance (AIS) in NSW.

The exact location is being kept a secret to help protect the last wild population of Wollemi pines from human disturbance, weeds and diseases.

Wollemi Pines grow up to 40 metres tall, often with multiple trunks and distinctive red, bubbly bark. They thrive in temperatures from -5°C to 45°C and adapt well to indoor, low-light settings. Mature pines produce both male and female cones, ensuring natural pollination.

Van Berkel Distributors, licensed by the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney and NSW National Parks, is the global exclusive propagator of the Wollemi Pine, supplying ASQ Garden & Landscape. Each pine comes with an authentication certificate and care guide, so you can bring this remarkable species into your garden and help preserve its legacy.

This resilient plant can continue a journey that began millions of years ago – right in your garden!
