Nursery Manager


Our Garden & Landscape team is looking for an experienced and motivated Nursery Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Eaglehawk Nursery.

ASQ Garden & Landscape is a locally owned and operated business supplying a large range of landscaping and horticultural needs for the novice gardener through to the professional landscaper. Operating four unique sites across Central Victoria, our landscape supply yards and garden nurseries located in Bendigo (Eaglehawk), Castlemaine and Maryborough are presented and maintained to the highest industry standard. Our sites are operated by professional, qualified staff who deliver expert advice, knowledge and services to our retail and trade customers. 

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Nursery Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Eaglehawk Nursery or Garden Centre. The role is responsible for supervising team members, managing product lines, overseeing purchases, and monitoring budgets related to staff wages and nursery inventory. This position is not responsible for full site management but works collaboratively with the Yard Manager and General Manager on nursery specific operations to support strategic goals for the nursery/garden centre, ensuring high standards are upheld in operations, sales, and staff management.

Your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Adhering to ASQ policies and procedures
  • Manage the daily operations of the nursery such as opening/ closure procedures, sales, purchases and transfer of stock, customer deliveries, cash reconciliation and banking
  • Provide professional advice to customers on plants, nursery products, and gardening solutions
  • Manage budget, purchasing and product lines to ensure quality, variety, and customer satisfaction
  • Collaborating on promotional activities and maintaining store presentation standards.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor and develop nursery workers to build product knowledge, advice on sales and impulsive buying and enhance customer service

Key Selection Criteria

  • Proven experience managing a nursery, garden centre or retail operation.
  • Knowledge/ experience in nursery and landscape products.
  • Tertiary qualifications in management, business, or horticulture (preferred).
  • Budget management and purchasing expertise.
  • Leadership skills with experience in team management and staff development
  • Experience using Point of Sales (POS) systems.
  • Ability to work weekends and public holidays as required
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with team members, customers, and suppliers
  • Strong work ethics, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and promoting a culture of teamwork
